Women Leaders Rally in Kibwezi West to Boost Economic Empowerment
Hundreds of women leaders from Makueni and neighboring counties gathered at Kibwezi Township Grounds yesterday for the Makueni County NGAAF Women Empowerment Program, under the theme: “Advancing Women’s Economic Agency Through Improved Water Access for a Prosperous Makueni.”
The event, which drew key political figures, development partners, and grassroots activists, was led by Makueni County Woman Representative Hon. Rose Museo Mumo, who has been widely recognized for championing women’s rights in the region. Also in attendance was Kitui County Woman Representative Dr. Irene Kasalu, alongside other stakeholders committed to promoting gender equality and women’s economic participation.
Speaking to the crowd, Hon. Museo Mumo emphasized the vital connection between water access and women’s economic empowerment. She noted that improved water infrastructure not only reduces household burdens but also opens opportunities for agribusiness, small enterprises, and active participation in local and regional markets.
The gathering offered a platform to showcase successful women-led enterprises, share community experiences, and promote peer mentorship and collaboration. Leaders also stressed the importance of building strong networks across the county to ensure that no woman or girl is left behind in the pursuit of economic opportunities.
“Access to clean and reliable water is not just a basic need—it is an economic enabler for women in our communities,” Hon. Museo Mumo said.
The NGAAF Women Empowerment Program continues to serve as a flagship initiative in Makueni, aiming to build a resilient, prosperous society driven by empowered women across all sectors.
