President Ruto Departs for Luanda to Attend AU–EU Summit
Kenya has reiterated its commitment to strengthening diplomatic and economic ties across Africa and beyond as President William Samoei Ruto departed the country on Monday for Luanda, Angola, to attend the African Union–European Union Summit.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, who was among senior government officials at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, saw off the President and noted that the visit underscores Kenya’s growing role in regional and global affairs.
The AU–EU Summit is expected to bring together heads of state, diplomats and policymakers from both continents to discuss cooperation on governance, development, climate resilience and trade. President Ruto is scheduled to lead Kenya’s delegation during the high-level sessions.
While in Luanda, President Ruto will also chair discussions on peace, security, climate, and investment, in line with his mandate as the African Union Champion for Institutional Reform. The role positions him at the centre of ongoing efforts to modernize the AU and strengthen its institutions.
Government officials say the President’s visit aims to enhance Kenya’s partnerships and advance economic and security interests that directly benefit citizens.
The summit is expected to run for several days, with outcomes anticipated to shape future AU–EU cooperation frameworks.
