Kenyan Delegation Participates in Opening of the 30th East Africa Law Society Annual Conference
Kenya joined regional counterparts for the opening session of the 30th East Africa Law Society (EALS) Annual Conference,qq a premier forum bringing together legal professionals, policymakers, and justice sector stakeholders to reflect on three decades of promoting the rule of law, regional integration, and professional excellence across East Africa.
In her remarks, Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Faith Mony Odhiambo underscored the Society’s unwavering commitment to advancing justice, strengthening legal institutions, and defending constitutionalism in Kenya and the broader East African region.
The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Luis Franceschi, who offered a compelling analysis of the rising threat of lawlessness and disorder in modern society. He cautioned that anarchy remains a “cancer eating away at our society,” warning that forces opposed to justice will always seek to weaken lawyers and the values they stand for.
Prof. Franceschi urged members of the legal profession to remain firm in their commitment to defending the rule of law, stating:
While we may not guarantee success, we certainly guarantee failure by giving up.
This year’s conference marks a significant milestone as EALS commemorates 30 years of regional leadership, professional collaboration, and steadfast advocacy for the rule of law. The forum continues to provide an essential platform for shared learning, policy dialogue, and strengthening the justice sector across the East African Community.
