Activist Ngetich Applauds President Ruto for Handing Over Amboseli National Park to Maa Community
Eldoret-based human rights activist Kipkorir Ngetich has lauded President Dr. William Ruto for his decision to hand over the management of Amboseli National Park to the Maa community, terming the move a landmark achievement in Kenya’s journey toward economic inclusion and devolution.
Mr. Ngetich said the transfer of Amboseli National Park’s management to the local community demonstrates President Ruto’s commitment to empowering marginalized groups through the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, which focuses on equitable resource sharing and grassroots participation in national development.
“This is a dream come true for the Maa community. The President, through his wisdom and transformative leadership, has ignited great economic potential for the region,” said Ngetich. “He has not only built a legacy but also created an economic stimulus plan that will uplift the lives of local people.”
The activist noted that the President’s action reflects his belief in the principles of devolution and inclusivity, ensuring that communities benefit directly from resources found within their localities. He said the move will spur job creation, infrastructural growth, and educational advancement, while also promoting conservation and sustainable tourism.
Mr. Ngetich praised President Ruto for recognizing the importance of local participation in ecosystem management, adding that such initiatives will encourage communities to take ownership of their natural resources for long-term benefits.
“The President’s vision goes beyond generations. His decision gives the Maa people an opportunity to shape their own destiny while conserving their heritage,” Ngetich stated.
He called upon county governments in the Maa region to fast-track the development of a clear roadmap to ensure that the community fully benefits from the park’s management.
The activist further urged the Head of State to extend similar empowerment programs to other parts of the country, especially regions dominated by multinational companies such as tea-growing areas in Nandi and Kericho, mining zones along the Coast, and tourism-dependent areas.
“Communities living in resource-rich areas deserve to benefit from their economic potential. This will not only reduce poverty but also close the gap between the rich and the poor that has existed since colonial times,” Ngetich added.
He hailed the President’s leadership as “deliberate, focused, and visionary,” saying it represents a new chapter for Kenya and Africa in pursuing economic empowerment and sustainable growth.
“President Ruto has once again shown that Africa’s progress lies in making bold, people-centered decisions. His move sets Kenya apart as a country capable of transforming its people’s lives through inclusive leadership,” said Ngetich.
Mr. Ngetich concluded by urging all Kenyans to support President Ruto’s dynamic leadership, describing it as “a beacon of hope and a model for transformative governance in Africa.”
