ODM Insiders Plot to Oust Sifuna After Tensions With Ruto and Raila
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, the Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), is reportedly on the chopping block following his recent clashes with both President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga.
According to a report published by the People Daily on Tuesday, there are growing murmurs of a purge within the party, with insiders suggesting that possible replacements for the outspoken senator have already been floated.
Among the names being mentioned are Vihiga Senator Geoffrey Osotsi, Ugenya MP David Ochieng, and Busia Governor Paul Otuoma. However, questions have emerged over the suitability of each potential successor.
Party strategists caution that replacing Sifuna with David Ochieng could reinforce perceptions of ODM as a Luo-dominated outfit, undermining the party’s national image. Governor Otuoma, though respected, is seen by some as lacking the broad appeal and visibility that Sifuna has cultivated.
Over the years, Sifuna has established himself as one of ODM’s most vocal defenders, often delivering sharp, unapologetic remarks that have won him both admiration and criticism. His national visibility, particularly in urban constituencies, has made him a significant political force within and beyond Nairobi.
The reports of an internal push to sideline him raise deeper questions about ODM’s unity and strategic direction ahead of the next political season.
For now, ODM has not issued any official statement confirming or denying the alleged plan, but the chatter around Sifuna’s fate underscores growing tensions within the opposition as it navigates its role in a changing political environment.
