Police Destroy Nearly 4,000 Litres of Illicit Kangara in Nandi County Crackdown

In a major operation targeting illicit alcohol production, police officers from Kapkerer Police Station, working jointly with their counterparts from Kobujoi Police Station, destroyed 3,916 litres of kangara on the morning of July 20, 2025, in Kipsigak Baibai village, Kapkerer Location, within Nandi South Sub-County.

The successful raid was part of an ongoing national crackdown on the manufacture and sale of illicit brews that continue to endanger lives and disrupt communities. During the operation, officers dismantled a concealed brewing den and destroyed all apparatus used in the illegal production of kangara — a primary ingredient used in distilling illicit alcohol.

Police say the move is aimed at protecting public health and upholding law and order, especially in areas grappling with the social and economic effects of unregulated alcohol consumption.

“This is a clear message to those engaging in the production and sale of these harmful substances. The National Police Service, in collaboration with local communities, remains firm in eradicating illicit brews across the country,” read a statement from the operation's lead officers.

Residents of Kipsigak Baibai praised the authorities for their swift action, noting the negative impact such brews have had on local youth and families.

The National Police Service has reaffirmed its commitment to conducting similar operations in other hotspots across the country, urging members of the public to continue reporting suspicious activities linked to illicit alcohol.

No arrests were reported during the Nandi operation, but investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend individuals behind the illegal brewing activities.
