Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi Blasts Sifuna Over Alleged Sh300 Million Demand to Join Broad-Based Government

Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi has launched a scathing attack on Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, accusing him of placing personal financial interests above national unity by allegedly demanding Sh300 million to join a proposed broad-based government.

Speaking during a political rally in Kapseret on Friday, Sudi claimed that Sifuna's alleged demand reveals the Nairobi Senator's true motivations — not public service, but personal enrichment.

“How can someone claim to represent the people and then turn around to demand Sh300 million just to support the idea of national dialogue or a broad-based government?” Sudi posed to the crowd. “That is not leadership. That is extortion.”

The outspoken UDA lawmaker said such demands undermine efforts to build a more inclusive, united government aimed at bridging political divisions and fostering development across the country.

Sudi: ODM Should Clarify Its Position

Sudi also called on the ODM leadership to come clean on whether Sifuna’s sentiments represent the party's official position or the personal ambitions of an individual seeking political leverage.

“If ODM is serious about helping the country move forward, they must distance themselves from this kind of greed,” he said. “Kenyans are struggling with the high cost of living, and here you have a leader thinking about Sh300 million for himself.”

Though no formal documentation or confirmation of the alleged demand has surfaced, Sudi insisted that his sources within the political negotiating circles were credible and warned that "any attempts to hijack the national dialogue process for personal benefit will be exposed and defeated."

Sifuna Yet to Respond

Senator Edwin Sifuna has not publicly responded to the allegations. However, the Nairobi Senator has previously expressed skepticism about the formation of a so-called broad-based government, warning against what he termed as "political baiting wrapped in national dialogue."

Political observers view Sifuna as a rising force within ODM’s pro-Raila camp and a vocal opponent of attempts to co-opt the opposition into what he has called “a government of appeasement.”

A Nation Watching

The controversy comes amid growing debate around the creation of a broad-based government to include opposition voices, a move that President William Ruto has hinted at in recent weeks. While some see it as a step toward unity, critics warn it could dilute democracy and incentivize political opportunism.
