Babu Owino’s Bid Could Shake 2027 Nairobi Race, Says MP Jalang’o

Lang’ata Member of Parliament Felix Oduor, popularly known as Jalang’o, has boldly predicted that Embakasi East MP Babu Owino will dominate the 2027 Nairobi gubernatorial race if handed the ODM ticket.

Speaking during a political gathering on Thursday, Jalang’o said Babu Owino’s popularity in Nairobi is undeniable and poses a serious challenge to incumbent Governor Johnson Sakaja.

“If Babu Owino gets the ODM ticket, he will be Governor by 6 AM. Sakaja will stand no chance,” Jalang’o said, drawing cheers from supporters. “Even if Babu doesn’t get the ODM ticket, he will still cause a lot of trouble in 2027.”

The remarks signal intensifying political maneuvering in Nairobi, with the ODM party yet to formally announce its preferred candidate for the capital’s top seat. Babu Owino, known for his youthful following and vocal style, has long hinted at gubernatorial ambitions, positioning himself as a champion of Nairobi’s youth and urban voters.

Governor Sakaja, who clinched victory in 2022 under the UDA ticket, is expected to defend his seat amid growing scrutiny over service delivery and financial management in the county.

Jalang’o’s statement also hints at potential internal competition within ODM, as several aspirants eye the coveted party ticket in a city traditionally seen as an ODM stronghold.

As political temperatures rise, analysts say Babu’s influence—whether as a candidate or a kingmaker—cannot be underestimated.

ODM party officials have not commented on Jalang’o’s remarks.
