KISE Hosts National Autism Conversation to Strengthen Support for Persons on the Spectrum
The Director General of the Kenya Institute of Special Education, Dr. Norman Kiogora, today convened the National Autism Conversation at the institute, bringing together experts, educators, caregivers, and key stakeholders to enhance collaboration and advance support for persons living with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
The forum created a platform for participants to share research, exchange knowledge, and explore strategies aimed at improving services and opportunities for individuals on the autism spectrum across Kenya.
Speaking during the symposium, Dr. Kiogora said the gathering reflects a growing national commitment to address autism through collective effort and inclusive dialogue.
“Looking around the room today, I am encouraged to see policymakers, educators, clinicians, researchers, development partners, and families gathered here with a shared purpose. The challenge of autism is too vast for any single institution to address alone,” he said.
He emphasized that addressing autism requires coordinated action across several sectors, including policy development, education, healthcare, and community support systems.
Dr. Kiogora noted that the symposium will continue to serve as an important platform for dialogue and collaboration among stakeholders working to improve the lives of persons on the autism spectrum.
He expressed optimism that continued partnerships and knowledge exchange will lead to stronger policies, better educational frameworks, and enhanced support structures for families and individuals affected by autism in the country.
