Njeru Leonard Muriuki “Leo wa Muthende” Wins Mbeere North Parliamentary Seat
In a heated by-election held on 27 November 2025, Njeru Leonard Muriuki Wamuthende has been declared the winner of the Mbeere North parliamentary seat, emerging victorious in a tight race that pitted him against several contenders, including Newton Kariuki Ndwiga (Karish) of the Democratic Party (DP).
According to the official tally, Muriuki secured 15,802 votes, versus Kariuki’s 15,308 — a margin of 494 votes, underscoring how closely contested the by-election was.
The by-election was triggered by the elevation of the former MP, Geoffrey Kiringa Ruku, to Cabinet earlier in 2025.
The result has generated widespread jubilation across the constituency — with celebrations reported in towns such as Siakago, Mutuobare, Kanyuambora and Ena as supporters carried Muriuki on their shoulders in a show of popular endorsement.
Upon his victory, Muriuki thanked the people of Mbeere North for entrusting him with their mandate, pledging to steer the constituency toward development, dignity, and stability. Observers note that his victory consolidates the hold of United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in Embu County and strengthens the influence of allied leadership in the Mt. Kenya East region — a significant boost ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Muriuki’s win is widely viewed as more than a local political victory: it is being framed as a public rejection of fear, threats and disorder — and a clear embrace of hope, progress, and principled leadership. As the new Member of Parliament for Mbeere North, the people have invested him with their future.
