Routine Road Maintenance in Uasin Gishu Boosts Accessibility and Cuts Costs for Residents
Uasin Gishu County continues to strengthen its commitment to infrastructure development with the ongoing maintenance and improvement of key roads across the region. On Monday, County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Roads, Abraham Serem, led an inspection tour of several recently completed grading and gravelling projects in Kapsoya Ward.
The initiative, part of Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii’s broader agenda to enhance road connectivity, aims to support local economic growth, improve transport efficiency, and reduce the cost of living for residents in both rural and urban areas.
During the tour, Serem and his team assessed the condition and progress of several roads including St. Theresa Catholic Church–Moira Road, Silas Stage–Transformer Road, Tumaini–Marura Road, Murkomen Road, and Olives–The Pearl Road. These roads, which had suffered significant damage due to prolonged rains, have now been rehabilitated to restore ease of movement.
Speaking during the inspection, Serem emphasized the county's dedication to expanding and maintaining its road network. “The Governor’s administration is committed to opening new roads and ensuring regular maintenance of existing ones to improve trade, access to services, and safety for all road users,” he said.
Residents have already begun to feel the impact of the improved roads. Rebecca Mong’are, a local resident, expressed her appreciation, noting that the deteriorated road conditions had previously forced schools to raise transport fees by up to KSh 1,000 per student. “Now that the roads have been repaired, we expect those costs to come down. This is a big relief for many families,” she said.
The road maintenance efforts are expected to continue across other wards in Uasin Gishu, as the county government seeks to build resilient infrastructure and promote equitable development throughout the region.
