ODM Issues Nomination Certificates to Unopposed Candidates Ahead of By-Elections
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) on Friday took a key step in its preparation for the upcoming by-elections by issuing nomination certificates to candidates who were unopposed during the party's internal vetting process.
The issuance was overseen by the party's National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC) in an event witnessed by senior party officials, including the ODM National Chairperson.
“It was my privilege, as National Chairperson, to witness this pivotal democratic process,” said the party leader, emphasizing ODM’s commitment to fair and transparent nominations.
Among those who received direct tickets was Harrison Kombe, who will represent the party in the race for the Magarini Parliamentary seat. Kombe, a seasoned politician and grassroots mobilizer, was cleared unopposed, earning the party’s confidence to carry its flag in the coastal constituency.
The NECC noted that the decision to issue direct nominations was made in strict adherence to ODM’s nomination rules and after wide consultations with local party organs and stakeholders.
“This process ensures that where consensus has been reached and no disputes exist, the party can move forward efficiently while maintaining unity,” a NECC official said.
The Committee also announced that it will soon release a comprehensive roadmap detailing the nomination procedures for the remaining competitive constituencies and ward seats. The document will guide aspirants and supporters on timelines, application procedures, and dispute resolution mechanisms.
The by-elections come amid increased political activity across the country, with various parties positioning themselves to secure seats left vacant due to resignations, deaths, or nullified results.
