Former Uasin Gishu Gubernatorial Aspirant Buzeki Officially Joins UDA Party

Former Uasin Gishu gubernatorial aspirant Zedekiah Bundotich Kiprop, popularly known as Buzeki, has officially joined the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, marking a significant political shift ahead of the next election cycle.

Buzeki, who contested the Uasin Gishu gubernatorial seat in the 2022 general election as an independent candidate, was defeated by Jonathan Bii, who ran on the UDA ticket. Now, in what he calls a "well-considered decision," Buzeki has formally registered as a UDA member, joining forces with the party led by President William Ruto.

He was welcomed to the party by UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar, during an official ceremony that sealed his transition.

“I am happy to join the party in broad daylight. This is a decision I have thought about for a long time,” Buzeki stated during the event.
“The UDA party is going to transform this country. Our economy is growing, and as an expert in economic matters, I can confidently say that President Ruto has laid a strong foundation for the future.”

A Shift of Allegiance and a Pledge of Loyalty

Buzeki emphasized that his entry into UDA was not just a political move, but a commitment to the transformation agenda being driven by the current administration. He made it clear that he is not joining as a passive member but as an active participant in shaping Kenya’s future.

“We don’t want to be bench sitters. We want to be remembered as people who stood up and helped change this country’s economic direction. We are here to stay, and we are here to help the party move forward and improve people’s lives.”

He also rallied his supporters to align with President Ruto’s vision, declaring that “All my supporters are President William Ruto’s supporters.”

Buzeki revealed that many Kenyans had encouraged him to make the move, especially after seeing former Prime Minister Raila Odinga working with the President.

“People kept telling me: if Raila can join hands with Ruto, what are you waiting for? I’ve listened, and now I’m fully on board. We are here to ensure that President William Ruto serves two full terms, because the economic transformation of this country is only just beginning.”

Uasin Gishu ‘Locked’ for UDA

Buzeki assured party leaders and supporters that Uasin Gishu is now a fully locked zone for UDA, noting that he had previously diverted votes in past elections but is now fully committed to the party’s cause.

“I will ensure Uasin Gishu delivers 100% for UDA. It’s no longer time for politics—we must focus on winning all by-elections and ensuring that every seat, from MCA to governor, belongs to UDA.”

Though he did not disclose which political seat he intends to contest in the next election, Buzeki hinted that an announcement would be made in due course.

“I will announce later the seat I will be vying for—we will discuss it when the right time comes.”

Background

Zedekiah “Buzeki” Bundotich is a prominent businessman and political figure in the Rift Valley region. His move to UDA comes at a time when the party is consolidating its grassroots support and preparing for upcoming by-elections and the 2027 general elections.

His entry is expected to bolster UDA’s presence in Uasin Gishu and the larger Rift Valley region, adding weight to President Ruto’s political machinery.
