Shock as unknown predator Eats over ten Sheep in Uasin Gishu
Baraka estate residents of kibulgen marakwet farm, Elgeyo Marakwet County, were left shocked when a predator known as a,leopard, attacked a homestead, killing more than 5 sheep and injuring others on sunday late at night.
The owner of the livestock,Mercy Jepchumba, describes the experience saying ,she had awakened early to prepare for a visit by a vet and go feed the animals at around six.
Because a vet had called to visit and treat them. One of them, had an eye problem. He was coming to treat it at around eight o'clock."Mercy explained.
Unfortunately, she saw the body of a sheep which had been consumed, bones and head being left behind.
Eleven sheep were reportedly hurt, with one unlikely to survive and six others having their stomachs ripped open and legs torn in two.
"So like eleven were badly hurt, I don't even know if they're gonna live. Then I have some pictures that show how they were treated. Two are completely unalive and one was completely eaten up," she said.
Disturbing tracks were found at the shed, which indicated the presence of an enormous predator.Police officers arrived when they received news about the incident, but, unluckily, the animal had already fled.
"And then there are also those footsteps at the farm, and those clawmarks at that sheep house. Its footprints are there."she added.
Residents ,are left in fear, awaiting further action by wildlife authorities ,to capture the animal and prevent such occurrences.
Farmers, from the area, now, remain on high alert, fearing for the safety of their cattle and loved ones.
