Kalonzo Joins LSK’s Purple Ribbon March, Condemns Violence Against Advocates
Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka on Friday joined members of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) during the Purple Ribbon March in Nairobi to honour the late advocate Mathew Kyalo Mbobu, who was recently found murdered under mysterious circumstances.
The symbolic march, organized by the LSK, brought together legal professionals, civil society actors, and members of the public in a strong show of unity against what they termed as a growing culture of violence, intimidation, and impunity targeting professionals in the country.
Speaking during the event, Mr. Musyoka described the killing of Kyalo as not just a tragedy for the legal community but a direct attack on all professionals who serve the nation with honesty and dedication.
“The tragic loss of Kyalo is not only an attack on advocates—it is an attack on every Kenyan professional who stands up for truth and justice,” Kalonzo said. “We cannot allow this regime to pick off professionals one by one as we stand by in silence. We are saying ‘Enough is Enough!’”
The former Vice President called for swift and transparent investigations into Kyalo’s death and urged the government to guarantee the safety and protection of legal practitioners and other professionals.
“The rule of law must be defended. Justice must prevail for Kyalo and for all who dare to stand for what is right,” he added.
The LSK Purple Ribbon March has become a platform for the legal fraternity to raise concerns over attacks, threats, and intimidation facing its members. This year’s march took on added urgency following the death of Kyalo, who had reportedly received threats before his disappearance and subsequent death.
The LSK has demanded accountability and protection for its members, warning that the independence of the legal profession is under threat.
