Mandera South MP Abdul Haro Kore Hosts Elwak DEB Students After National Music Festival Triumph
By John Kariuki
Mandera South Member of Parliament Abdul Haro Kore today hosted students from Elwak DEB Primary and Junior School in Nairobi, celebrating their outstanding performance at the National Music Festivals in Meru where they clinched victories in four different categories of folk songs for both primary and junior school levels.
The visit was not only a reward for their artistic excellence but also an educational and historic moment. For the first time in Mandera County’s history, a school delegation toured both the National Assembly and the Senate. The students were given a rare glimpse into the country’s legislative heart, walking the same corridors as Kenya’s lawmakers and experiencing first hand the settings where important national decisions are made.
During the tour, the students saw where their Senator sits in the Senate chambers and where their own MP takes his place in the National Assembly. This exposure, MP Abdul Haro noted, was aimed at inspiring the young learners to dream big and understand the importance of leadership and public service.
The day ended with a dinner hosted by the MP for the students and their teachers. In his address, Hon. Abdul Haro commended the learners for their discipline, dedication and talent, describing them as role models for other children in Mandera. He expressed his hope that the visit would leave a lasting impact on the young minds, encouraging them to pursue excellence in both academics and co curricular activities.
“I hope and pray that one day, one or more of these bright students will make it to either the National Assembly or the Senate. This is just the beginning of what they can achieve,” he said.
The MP also underscored the importance of nurturing talent in schools, noting that platforms like the National Music Festivals play a crucial role in promoting cultural heritage while boosting confidence and teamwork among learners. He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting education and youth empowerment initiatives in Mandera South, ensuring that young people have the opportunities, resources and mentorship needed to reach their full potential.
This celebration of talent, culture and ambition marked a milestone for Elwak DEB Primary and Junior School and for Mandera County as a whole.
