I remember the night as if it were yesterday. It was raining heavily. The sound of sirens shattered the silence of our neighborhood, and the glow of flames lit up the sky.
Word spread quickly: there had been a fire at an apartment building on the outskirts of town. My heart dropped when I received a call that my husband’s car had been found parked outside that very building. He wasn’t answering his phone. Panic gripped me.
