A 17-year-old girl has been arrested in Nakuru County in connection with the brutal murder of a 3-year-old child, identified as Margaret Wanjiru Kirathe.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspect, Lizz Njeri Mwangi, is believed to have lured the young girl away from a local church before strangling her with a piece of cloth. The child was found unconscious and later pronounced dead upon arrival at Kenlands Hospital.
DCI officers say CCTV footage played a crucial role in identifying the suspect. Upon her arrest, police recovered clothing matching that worn during the incident, as well as the cloth allegedly used in the murder.
“The suspect is in custody and will be processed in accordance with the law,” said a police spokesperson. “We are still investigating the motive behind this horrific crime.”
The case has shocked residents in the area, with many calling for justice for the slain child.
Investigations are ongoing.
