Activist Morara Kebaso Quits Politics Weeks After Launching Manifesto

Political activist Morara Kebaso has made a surprise announcement to withdraw from active politics, sending shockwaves through Kenya’s civic and political circles. The news comes just weeks after he unveiled an ambitious manifesto that had positioned him as a rising voice for reform and youth empowerment.

In a statement released Monday, Kebaso cited “deep personal reflection and a desire to pursue change from outside formal political systems” as the driving force behind his decision.

“I believe I can make a more authentic impact by working with communities directly, without the restrictions and compromises that often come with politics,” said Kebaso.

Known for his outspoken views on corruption, social injustice, and governance reform, Kebaso quickly became a popular figure, particularly among younger voters disillusioned with traditional political leadership. His recent manifesto, which was launched with high expectations, included bold proposals such as radical government transparency, a universal youth stipend, and a complete overhaul of public sector recruitment processes to ensure fairness and accountability.

Kebaso’s decision to bow out of politics has left many of his supporters both stunned and disappointed. Social media platforms were abuzz with reactions from young Kenyans who had seen in him a symbol of hope and change.

“We had finally found someone who spoke our language and understood our struggles,” said Sharon Otieno, a university student and one of Kebaso’s early campaign volunteers. “It hurts to see him step back, but I respect his choice.”

Despite his exit from the formal political stage, Kebaso affirmed his continued commitment to civic engagement, pledging to collaborate with grassroots organizations and social movements to push for systemic change from the ground up.

Political analysts say his move underscores the frustration many young reformers face when engaging with the entrenched political establishment in Kenya.

“Morara Kebaso’s departure is a reflection of how hostile the political system can be to independent voices,” said political commentator David Munene. “But his influence may continue to grow, even from outside the formal structures of power.”

Whether inside or outside the political arena, Morara Kebaso remains a figure to watch as he redefines the role of activism in Kenya’s future.
