Oscar Sudi Clashes with Senator Cherargei Over CS Murkomen Criticism

Political temperatures within the Kenya Kwanza coalition rose sharply on Tuesday following a fiery online exchange between Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi and Nandi Senator Samson Kiprotich Cherargei.

The confrontation erupted after Senator Cherargei posted a scathing message on his Facebook page accusing Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen of incompetence and deflecting accountability over a series of controversial security incidents, including the recent death of social media influencer and teacher Albert Ojwang while in police custody.

"For the record, CS Murkomen never taught me in any class of law. He was just making political statements to save his skin from accountability and his poor performance in the Ministry of Interior," wrote Cherargei.

He continued, "He should answer to Kenyans — who killed Albert Ojwang, Fr. Allois Cheruiyot Bett, Fr. Maina, the Angata Baragoi killings, and the growing criminal gangs in Nakuru and Mombasa? He must RESIGN! We shall not be intimidated from demanding justice, transparency, and accountability for Kenya."

The senator's post ignited a swift and harsh response from MP Oscar Sudi, a vocal ally of President William Ruto. In a sharply worded statement, Sudi accused Cherargei of using Murkomen as a proxy target in an attempt to undermine the President.

“Stop going through the corners by attacking Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen when you know very well it’s President William Ruto you are targeting,” Sudi wrote. “Man up and face him directly. We are not fools, and we know your heart is in Wamunyoro’s camp. Be bold and cross over to serve your master freely.”

The phrase “Wamunyoro’s camp” is widely interpreted as a reference to internal political factions within the Kenya Kwanza alliance, signaling deepening divisions among key figures in the ruling coalition.

The spat highlights growing cracks in the alliance, particularly in the Rift Valley region, which has traditionally been a stronghold of political unity under President Ruto's leadership. It also comes amid increased scrutiny over security failures and the demand for accountability from senior government officials.

Neither Senator Cherargei nor CS Murkomen had issued further public comments by the time of this publication. However, political observers say the back-and-forth is a sign of intensifying succession battles and ideological rifts as the 2027 election cycle begins to take shape.
