Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has firmly rejected an overture by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki to join the government, vowing to remain in the opposition and condemning the current administration as a “blood-based regime.”
In a strongly worded statement shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Kalonzo dismissed claims suggesting he was in talks to join President William Ruto’s government, calling such narratives “falsehoods” meant to mislead the public and sanitize what he termed as injustice.
“I want to make it clear: I will never work with this blood-based regime. Let no one be misled by those peddling falsehoods and attempting to use my name to justify injustice,” Kalonzo declared.
The former Vice President, widely seen as a key figure in the opposition coalition, Azimio la Umoja, emphasized that he remains committed to defending the rights and interests of the Kenyan people. He described efforts to associate him with the ruling administration as part of a broader campaign to undermine the integrity of the opposition and dilute calls for accountability.
“I will never work with this administration. Let no one be misled by the lies of those who try to use my name to justify injustice,” Kalonzo wrote.
June 25 Declared a Day to Honour Gen Z Heroes
Kalonzo also announced that June 25th will be observed as a public holiday to honour what he called the “Gen Z heroes” — young Kenyans who have been at the forefront of recent protests and advocacy for justice, equity, and democratic reforms.
“June 25th will be a public holiday, a day to honour our Gen Z heroes. We will lay flowers on Parliament Street, light candles, and remember them with the respect and dignity they deserve,” he said.
This declaration comes in the wake of mounting public unrest and online activism led by Kenya’s youth, particularly over issues ranging from police brutality to economic inequality and suppression of dissent.
Kalonzo’s statement is seen as a bold rebuke to suggestions of political compromise at a time when trust in government institutions is waning and public demand for accountability is growing louder.
Political Fallout
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, who had earlier hinted at the need for national unity and inclusion—reportedly extending an informal olive branch to Kalonzo—has not issued a response to the Wiper leader’s latest remarks.
However, political analysts say Kalonzo’s unequivocal rejection signals a deepening of the divide between opposition leaders and the Ruto administration, at a time when tensions over governance, transparency, and national cohesion continue to escalate.
With Kalonzo now positioning himself as a steadfast opposition voice, pressure is likely to intensify on other political leaders to clarify their stance amid growing calls for leadership that represents the will of the people.
