Hon. Abdul Haro, Member of Parliament for Mandera South, on Monday represented the National Assembly’s Departmental Committee on Education at the 4th Multi-sectoral Conference and Exhibition on Research, Science, Technology and Innovation, held in Naivasha, Nakuru County.
The high-level event, hosted by the National Commission for Science, Technology and Innovation (NACOSTI), brought together stakeholders from across the public and private sectors to explore collaborative opportunities and chart Kenya’s future in science-led development.
Addressing delegates at the conference, Hon. Haro lauded Kenya’s unified approach to science and innovation, while highlighting the central role of education in driving national progress.
“Education is the engine of innovation. Without our academic institutions, the pipeline for future researchers, scientists and innovators would simply not exist,” he remarked.
The legislator also acknowledged ongoing challenges in coordination among sectors, calling for enhanced collaboration to ensure innovation reaches all corners of the country. He urged stakeholders to expand the reach of research outcomes beyond institutional settings.
“Let us take innovation beyond the labs to our counties, classrooms and communities,” Hon. Haro emphasized.
Underscoring the government’s commitment, Hon. Haro reaffirmed support for both current and upcoming initiatives aimed at strengthening science, technology and innovation (STI) as key pillars of the country’s development agenda.
The multi-sectoral event served as a platform for showcasing research outputs, forging partnerships, and discussing policy frameworks to strengthen STI in Kenya. It drew participants from academia, industry, government agencies, and civil society, all focused on building an inclusive innovation ecosystem.
