In a powerful show of compassion and community empowerment, the George Natembeya Foundation on Friday, July 12, 2024, handed over a fully furnished two-bedroom house to Mama Gladys Akala, a long-time resident of Mwibono Village in Keiyo Ward, Kwanza Constituency.
The heartwarming ceremony marked yet another milestone in the foundation’s ongoing mission to uplift vulnerable families and restore dignity across the region. Mama Akala, who had been living in difficult conditions, could not hide her joy as she stepped into her new home — complete with modern furnishings and essential household amenities.
“This house is more than a roof over my head. It is a sign that I am seen, that I matter, and that there is hope even in hard times,” said an emotional Mama Akala, expressing her gratitude to the foundation and its leadership.
Speaking during the handover, representatives of the George Natembeya Foundation emphasized that the initiative reflects their deep commitment to addressing inequality and promoting human dignity.
“Our vision goes beyond charity. We are working to create a society where everyone, regardless of their circumstances, can live with dignity, security, and hope,” said a foundation spokesperson.
The house, built with local labor and materials, is part of a broader social transformation agenda spearheaded by the foundation under the leadership of former Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya. The project aims to support the elderly, persons with disabilities, and economically disadvantaged families through sustainable and impactful interventions.
Community members and local leaders who attended the event lauded the foundation’s efforts, noting that such acts of generosity were helping to bridge longstanding gaps in housing and social welfare.
As the sun set over Mwibono Village, Mama Akala stood at the doorway of her new home — a symbol of resilience, and a testament to what targeted, people-centered philanthropy can achieve.
