Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has publicly condemned Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja following violent disruptions of peaceful protests in the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD).
The demonstrations, held in honour of the late teacher and blogger Albert Ojwang, who died under controversial police circumstances, were marred by violent attacks on protesters. Speaking at a press briefing, Babu Owino accused Governor Sakaja of hiring goons to intimidate and assault peaceful demonstrators.
“I stand before you as a citizen deeply outraged by the senseless violence we are witnessing,” Babu Owino declared. “The recent attacks targeted innocent Kenyans peacefully demanding justice for Albert Ojwang’s death.”
Babu Owino described the assaults as cowardly acts that undermine Kenya’s core values of peace, dignity, and justice.
“These goons and thugs are not heroes; they are criminals who must be treated as such,” he said firmly.
Addressing Governor Sakaja directly, Babu Owino warned against the use of violence as a tool for control and power.
“Your actions today do not make you strong. Hurting others reveals your weakness, your fear, and a blatant disregard for the rule of law. We will not allow fear to win,” he stated.
He urged the Governor to uphold the values of respect and peace that he championed during his 2022 campaigns.
