Residents of Trans Nzoia County will now access government services from their local Subcounty offices following the temporary closure of the County Headquarters in Kitale.
Governor George Natembeya on Monday announced that the County Headquarters will remain closed for 56 days as the county government embarks on an ambitious plan to decentralize services and improve accessibility for residents in rural and remote areas.
“As of this week, we have begun serving the public from our Kiminini Subcounty offices,” said Governor Natembeya. “This marks the start of a rotational service delivery model that will cover all four subcounties: Endebess, Saboti, Cherang’any, and Kwanza.”
The governor emphasized that the move is intended to bring services closer to the people and ensure that no resident is left behind. County officials and staff have been deployed to the Subcounty offices, which will serve as temporary administrative centers for the duration of the headquarters closure.
“Devolution means that citizens should not have to travel long distances to receive basic services. By operating directly from subcounties, we are living up to that promise,” he added.
Residents are encouraged to visit their nearest Subcounty office for all county-related services, including licensing, development inquiries, health services coordination, and more.
The County Government has assured the public that all departments are fully operational at the Subcounty level and that no service will be interrupted during this period.
Governor Natembeya reiterated his administration’s commitment to transparent and efficient governance, noting that the rotational model could become a regular feature if successful.
“We are listening, and we are taking action. This is a government that comes to the people,” he said.
