In a daring security operation marked by gunfire and grit, a multi-agency team of officers has successfully recovered stolen livestock in Laikipia East, thwarting an attempted theft by armed bandits and returning the animals to their rightful owner.
The dramatic incident unfolded early Thursday morning after a report of livestock theft was filed at Doldol Police Station. Acting swiftly, a joint security team led by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) launched a manhunt for the culprits, tracing their path toward the remote Ol-Kinyei Dam area.
Sources say the operation turned tense when the officers encountered a group of armed bandits guarding the stolen animals. A brief confrontation ensued, with the officers managing to overpower the suspects, who fled the scene under pressure, abandoning the livestock.
In the aftermath, seven cows—tired but unharmed—were recovered and escorted under heavy security to Kiwanja Ndege Shopping Centre. There, in an emotional reunion, the animals were handed back to their relieved owner.
“This is not just about livestock. It’s about people’s livelihoods, security, and trust in law enforcement,” said a local elder who witnessed the return. “The swift action of the police has restored confidence in the community.”
The National Police Service has praised the team’s bravery and reaffirmed its commitment to fighting livestock theft, which remains a persistent challenge in pastoral regions.
“We stand firm in our duty to protect lives and property. Let this be a warning to all criminal elements—we are watching, and we will act,” read an official police statement.
The suspects remain at large, and security agencies have launched a follow-up operation to apprehend them. Meanwhile, the recovered cattle are safely back where they belong—a small victory in the ongoing battle against banditry in Laikipia.
