Kipkorir Ngetich Slams Jeremiah Kioni’s Allegations, Calls for DCI Probe and National Unity

Eldoret-based human rights activist Kipkorir Ngetich has strongly condemned recent statements by Hon. Jeremiah Kioni alleging that the Government planned and deployed militia to attack civilians during the June 25th and Saba Saba demonstrations.

Ngetich termed the allegations “reckless, irresponsible, and potentially inciting,” and called on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to summon Kioni to record a formal statement. He demanded that Kioni provide evidence and a detailed account of the so-called militia structure he claims was behind the attacks.

“Such wild accusations, without any proof, are not only dangerous but designed to incite fear, deepen division, and destabilize the country,” said Ngetich. “If Hon. Kioni has credible information, he must present it to the authorities immediately, not leak it through the media or politically-charged rallies.”

Ngetich drew parallels between Kioni’s statements and those made by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing both of engaging in a “scapegoating campaign” after the Mt. Kenya region was rocked by chaos, looting, and business losses during the protests.

“It is shameless that after realizing the harm and suffering caused to businesses and families in Mt. Kenya, these leaders now point fingers at the Government to avoid accountability,” he added.

According to Ngetich, the people of Mt. Kenya were used by power-hungry elites to fuel what he described as an attempted civilian coup against President William Ruto. He accused Kioni and his allies of misleading youth and inciting them into destructive acts under the false narrative of justice and government oppression.

“Now that the insurrection has failed, they are repackaging the chaos as a state-orchestrated atrocity to gain international sympathy, even going as far as preparing videos for submission to the International Criminal Court (ICC),” Ngetich warned.

The activist reminded Kenyans that Kioni previously served in both the Kibaki and Uhuru administrations—governments under which serious human rights violations, including the River Yala bodies scandal, remain unresolved.

“Why didn’t he raise the alarm earlier if he was aware of a militia network? His sudden concern now reveals deep-rooted hypocrisy and tribalism,” Ngetich stated.

He further criticized what he called a tribal isolation campaign spearheaded by Kioni and Gachagua against President Ruto, cautioning the Kikuyu community against being misled into ethnic confrontation.

“Kenya cannot afford to be torn apart by ethnic hate disguised as political dissent. Those attempting to isolate the president because of his Kalenjin roots are sowing seeds of national discord.”

Ngetich emphasized that Kenya is a multi-ethnic nation, and unity must take precedence over ethnic politics. He warned that tribalist leaders who aspire to national office may use state power to marginalize entire communities if allowed to succeed.

He also urged young people to avoid political incitement and realize that no government, past or present, can provide overnight solutions to complex economic challenges.

“The youth are being weaponized in a dirty war of regime change. Let’s be clear—what we witnessed was not a genuine call for justice, but a calculated political agenda to sabotage a sitting government,” he said.

In his closing remarks, Ngetich stated that President Ruto was exercising his constitutional duty to preserve peace and national sovereignty, and any attempt to drag him to the ICC was misguided and bound to fail.

“We must protect our country from those who want to divide us through lies, tribalism, and foreign interference. Kenya belongs to all of us—Kalenjin, Kikuyu, Luo, Luhya, and every other community. Let us stand united.”
