Tragedy in Turbo: Three Pupils Feared Dead After School Toilet Collapses

A somber mood has engulfed Riverside Village in Kaptebee Location, Turbo Division, after a toilet facility at Queen of Angels Primary School collapsed on Thursday morning, with three children feared dead.

The tragic incident occurred shortly before 9:00 a.m., sending shockwaves through the local community as parents, teachers, and residents rushed to the scene. Emergency rescue operations, led by county disaster response teams and Kenya Red Cross personnel, are currently underway as efforts to retrieve the trapped pupils continue.

According to eyewitnesses, the school’s toilet block caved in unexpectedly while a group of children was using the facility. Screams from nearby classrooms drew the attention of staff and students, who quickly raised the alarm.

“It happened so fast. We heard a loud crash, and by the time we got there, part of the structure had already sunk,” said one teacher, visibly shaken.

Local authorities have since confirmed that three pupils are unaccounted for and feared dead, though the exact number of casualties will only be confirmed once the rescue mission is complete.

In a swift response, Uasin Gishu County education officials have ordered the indefinite closure of the school pending a full safety inspection and investigation into the incident.

More details will be provided as they become available. Authorities are urging the public to stay away from the area to allow emergency personnel to work efficiently.
