Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife, Rebecca Miano EGH, has emphasized the growing importance of cultural and sports tourism as a powerful bridge between Kenya and Uganda, showcasing the unique yet interconnected heritage of the East African region.

Speaking during a regional tourism dialogue, CS Miano noted that the two nations offer distinct but complementary attractions that collectively elevate East Africa as a premier travel destination. Kenya’s rich Swahili coastal heritage and dynamic urban experiences harmonize seamlessly with Uganda’s deep-rooted traditional kingdoms and unique cultural expressions.

“Kenya and Uganda’s cultural and sports tourism offerings beautifully complement each other,” said Miano. “Our Swahili coastal heritage and vibrant city life blend with Uganda’s storied traditions to create a diverse yet unified experience for regional and international visitors.”

She underscored the need for greater collaboration between the two countries to unlock the full potential of East African tourism. Through joint marketing, regional expos, and coordinated investment, Miano believes the sector can become a key driver of economic growth, integration, and cultural preservation.

Her remarks come ahead of the Pearl of Africa Tourism Expo (POATE) 2025, where stakeholders from across the region are expected to showcase their offerings. CS Miano’s vision aligns with ongoing efforts to position East Africa as a unified, authentic, and experience-rich destination.

“Tourism has the power to bring people together,” she said. “By embracing our shared heritage and promoting our diverse cultures through sports and tourism, we are building bridges that strengthen our region and enrich the visitor experience.”
