Eldoret Court Denies Bond to School Driver Accused of Defiling 3-Year-Old Girl

A 31-year-old school bus driver accused of defiling a three-year-old girl has been ordered to remain in custody after an Eldoret court declined to grant him bond.

Principal Magistrate Kesse Cheronoh ruled on Friday that the accused, Bernard Kipkorir, be remanded at Eldoret GK Remand Prison until June 11, 2025, when the case will come up for further directions.

“The application by the accused to be granted bond or bail is rejected. I direct that he be escorted to Eldoret GK remand prison pending mention of the matter on June 11,” ruled Magistrate Cheronoh.

The decision followed strong opposition from the prosecution, which argued that releasing the suspect on bond could jeopardize his safety, citing hostility from the community where the incident occurred.

The prosecution further informed the court that all necessary documents, including the P3 medical form, medical report, and statements from five witnesses, had already been supplied to the defense.

Kipkorir is accused of defiling a minor, identified in court records by the initials KJ, on May 8 in the Katuiyo area of Ainabkoi sub-county, Uasin Gishu County. He also faces an alternative charge of committing an indecent act with a minor, contrary to Section 11(1) of the Sexual Offences Act No. 3 of 2006.

According to court documents, the alleged defilement was discovered the following day, May 9, when the victim's grandmother noticed the child was walking abnormally. Upon questioning, the young girl mentioned Kipkorir as the perpetrator.

The minor was taken for medical evaluation at a local health facility before being referred to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret for specialized treatment.

The court session was packed with emotional family members of both the victim and the accused. Among those present was the director of the private school where Kipkorir was employed as a driver.

The case has stirred public outrage in the community, with many calling for swift justice. The court is expected to issue further directions during the next mention of the case on June 11.
