Former Lands and Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. Jacob Kaimenyi has called on members of the legal profession to uphold the highest standards of integrity and professionalism in their work.
Speaking at a thanksgiving ceremony held at a Kiambu hotel to celebrate the admission of Ms. Evajoy Kamuto to the bar, Prof. Kaimenyi emphasised the critical role that judges, magistrates, and lawyers play in upholding justice. He noted that society holds legal practitioners in high regard and expects them to act with honesty, impartiality, and ethical conduct.
“Judicial officers are the cornerstone of a free and just society,” said Prof. Kaimenyi, who also served as Kenya’s Ambassador to Belgium. “Much is expected of them, and it is imperative they carry out their duties with integrity and a sense of responsibility.”
The ceremony celebrated Ms. Kamuto, a newly admitted advocate and daughter of retired veteran journalist Joseph Kamuto. Prof. Kaimenyi used the occasion to urge young legal professionals to seek mentorship from experienced practitioners, noting that learning from seasoned lawyers would enhance their competence and character.
Rev. Mary Muriuki, the Moderator of Kiambu Presbytery and Minister of PCEA Banana Parish, also addressed the gathering. In her sermon, she echoed Prof. Kaimenyi’s remarks, stressing that the legal profession is one of high moral calling and that the public looks to lawyers to uphold justice and fairness.
The event drew family, friends, and members of the legal and religious communities who came to support and celebrate Ms. Kamuto's achievement and commitment to the legal field.
