Coca-Cola has slashed the price of its 500ml glass bottle by 17% in Nyanza and Western regions, bringing the cost down from KES 60 to KES 50. The move is part of a new regional initiative, ‘Shika Mzito’, aimed at celebrating the community spirit and resilience of the people in these areas.
The three-month campaign will cover ten counties—Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Siaya, Kisii, Nyamira, Kakamega, Bungoma, Vihiga, and Busia—bringing more affordable refreshment to consumers enjoying Coke, Fanta, or Sprite.
“Nyanza and Western are known for their strong community bonds,” said Weslene Orwoba, Senior Marketing Manager at Coca-Cola Kenya. “Whether it’s after a long day in the fields or during a football match, these are the moments that bring people together—and nothing complements them better than an ice-cold Coke.”
The 500ml bottle, affectionately called ‘madiaba’, is being highlighted as a symbol of everyday pride and recognition for the region’s unsung heroes—farmers, boda boda riders, teachers, artisans, and football fans alike.
With deep roots in the region’s football culture—home to iconic clubs like Gor Mahia, AFC Leopards, and Kakamega Homeboyz—Coca-Cola says it’s committed to celebrating and uplifting local traditions and values through this campaign.
“‘Shika Mzito’ is our way of joining the celebrations that define life in these regions,” added Orwoba. “By making our most loved pack more affordable, we’re honouring the hardworking spirit of our consumers and giving them more reasons to share in moments of joy.”
The campaign aims to not only deliver value but also deepen Coca-Cola’s connection with communities that have long embraced the brand as part of their everyday moments.
