In a major step towards digital transformation in Kenya’s tea sector, the Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) has unveiled the new KTDA Farmers App, a mobile application designed to empower smallholder farmers by streamlining operations and improving access to critical farming data.

Tailored specifically for over 600,000 small-scale tea growers under KTDA’s umbrella, the app enables farmers to track their green leaf deliveries, monitor earnings, and manage their farming activities more efficiently. It is now available for download on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.

“With the new KTDA Farmers App, we are putting the power of information directly into the hands of our farmers,” said a KTDA spokesperson. “This is about simplifying their experience, increasing transparency, and helping them make informed decisions to boost productivity and profitability.”

The app rollout comes as part of KTDA’s wider strategy to digitize agricultural value chains and enhance service delivery. The initiative has received support from key stakeholders including the Tea Board of Kenya, KTDA Foundation, Majani Insurance Brokers Ltd, and several partner factories such as Nduti, Mungania, Gacharage, and Imenti Tea Factory Companies.

In addition to individual farmers, the platform is expected to benefit factory management teams and cooperatives by facilitating better communication and data-sharing.

KTDA Holdings Limited and its subsidiaries—Ketepa Ltd, Temec Ltd, and others—have also expressed support for the app, which they say will further strengthen Kenya’s position as a global leader in quality teas.

County governments, including Kiambu, Murang’a, and Kericho, have lauded the app’s potential to enhance tech-driven farming and stimulate local economies.
