Governor Bii Condemns Illegal Kidney Trade in Eldoret, Pledges Protection for Youth

Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii has spoken out strongly against the recently exposed illegal kidney trade operation in Eldoret, calling it a “deeply disturbing” exploitation of vulnerable youth and vowing to take firm action to protect residents from such predatory schemes.

In a statement issued today, Governor Bii expressed heartbreak over revelations that some young people in Eldoret were allegedly misled into selling their kidneys, often without full awareness of the serious and lifelong health consequences.

“It is heartbreaking to learn that some of our young people were misled into this exploitative scheme, many without fully understanding the serious health risks involved,” said the governor. “Such manipulation of vulnerable individuals is unacceptable.”

The alleged kidney trafficking ring, believed to involve both local and foreign operatives, has sparked nationwide outrage and prompted swift intervention from the Ministry of Health. Governor Bii commended the Ministry, under the leadership of Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale, for its prompt and decisive response in investigating the matter and safeguarding public health.

“As Kenya’s fifth city, we will not stand by as our youth are preyed upon through deceitful and dangerous schemes,” Governor Bii stated. “Their dignity and future must be protected.”

He urged Uasin Gishu residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities linked to human trafficking, illegal organ trade, or health exploitation. “We urge our residents to remain alert and stand firm against these unscrupulous dealers whose sole aim is exploitation.”

Governor Bii emphasized that the county government would work closely with national security agencies, medical institutions, and civil society to ensure justice is served and those responsible are held accountable.

He concluded with a message of unity and resilience: “Let us all continue to rise above and uphold the values that define our great city — dignity, integrity, and the protection of our people.”

Investigations into the illegal kidney trade are ongoing, with several arrests reported. Authorities have promised a full crackdown on the networks involved and additional oversight over medical facilities suspected of facilitating or turning a blind eye to the practice.
