Wazalendo FC Thrash Iten United 3-0 to Win KSh 1 Million in Mashujaa Day Football Tournament

Wazalendo FC of Uasin Gishu County have been crowned champions of the three-county Mashujaa Day football tournament after defeating Iten United FC of Elgeyo Marakwet 3-0 in the final played at Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret.

The victory saw Wazalendo FC walk away with KSh 1 million in prize money after an impressive performance against their opponents in the much-anticipated final played on Tuesday afternoon.

Iten United FC, who finished as runners-up, received KSh 750,000 despite falling short in the contest.

The tournament brought together football teams from Uasin Gishu, Nandi and Elgeyo Marakwet counties as part of activities marking this year's Mashujaa Day celebrations in Eldoret.

The Kenya Academy of Sports said it was proud to have played a critical role in coordinating the three-county competition, which provided a platform for local footballers to showcase their talent and compete for top honours.

The competition highlighted the role of sports in bringing communities together while promoting grassroots football and identifying emerging talent across the North Rift region.

Wazalendo FC's emphatic 3-0 victory capped an impressive campaign for the Uasin Gishu side, earning them the tournament's top prize and bragging rights over their regional rivals.

The involvement of teams from the three counties also underscored the potential of inter-county sporting events to nurture talent, strengthen regional ties and create opportunities for young footballers.

The Mashujaa Day football tournament formed part of the broader celebrations held in Eldoret, which hosted the national festivities at Kipchoge Keino Stadium.

With Wazalendo FC taking home KSh 1 million and Iten United FC settling for KSh 750,000, the tournament delivered both competitive football and a significant financial incentive for participating teams.

The success of the competition is expected to provide further momentum for grassroots football development across Uasin Gishu, Nandi and Elgeyo Marakwet counties.
