Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Hon. Rebecca Miano, EGH, has celebrated Kenya’s rich visual heritage and the growing power of screen tourism in positioning Magical Kenya on the global map.
In a statement titled *"Cinematic Horizons: Celebrating Our Visual Heritage and Screen Tourism in Kenya!"* issued as the world marks the World Day for Audiovisual Heritage, CS Miano hailed film, television and digital archives as living carriers of Kenya’s collective memory and powerful windows into the country’s diverse landscapes.
“Today, as we mark the World Day for Audiovisual Heritage, we celebrate film, television, and digital archives as the living carriers of our collective memory and powerful windows into our landscape. Through our work in destination marketing, we know that screen storytelling remains one of the most effective tools to captivate global audiences,” CS Miano said.
The CS noted that Kenya continues to attract the world’s leading creative industries and commercial brands as a world-class stage for their most ambitious productions, thanks to its breathtaking landscapes, vibrant cities, rich cultures and immense creative talent.
“We see this firsthand as the world's leading creative industries and commercial brands actively choose Kenya as a world-class stage for their most ambitious productions. Our breathtaking landscapes, vibrant cities, rich cultures, and immense creative talent possess a unique power to inspire international travel when our stories are told responsibly and linked directly to visitor-ready experiences,” she stated.
CS Miano reaffirmed her Ministry’s commitment to working alongside the Kenya Film Commission to protect Kenya’s priceless visual heritage while cementing the country’s status as the ultimate destination where remarkable stories are brought to life, filmed and lived.
She thanked every local and international crew that continues to bring their vision to Magical Kenya, noting that their work not only shares Kenya’s stories with the world but also drives economic growth across transport, accommodation, catering, safari guiding and production support.
Under CS Miano’s leadership, the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife has prioritized innovative marketing strategies, including leveraging film and content creation to drive tourism, create jobs for youth in the creative economy and promote sustainable tourism.
The World Day for Audiovisual Heritage, observed annually on 27th October, is a UNESCO initiative that recognizes the importance of preserving audiovisual materials as part of cultural heritage.
