SAKAJA FIRES GEOFFREY MOSIRIA DAYS AFTER DECLARING NAIROBI GUBERNATORIAL BID

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has dismissed Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria from his position in charge of Public Participation, Citizen Engagement and Customer Service in a major reshuffle of the county government announced on Wednesday, October 21, 2026.

The changes, communicated through a letter signed by Nairobi County Secretary and Head of Public Service Dr Machel Waikenda, designate Zipporah Mwangi to take over Mosiria’s position in an acting capacity.

Mwangi will continue serving as Chief Officer for City Culture, Arts and Tourism alongside her new responsibilities.

The latest administrative changes come barely ten days after Mosiria publicly declared his intention to contest the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in the 2027 General Election, setting the stage for a potential political contest against his current boss.

Mosiria announced his ambitions on October 11, 2026, during a visit by Jubilee Party leaders to Jesus Is Alive Ministries Church, led by Bishop Margaret Wanjiru.

During the event, the outspoken county official presented himself as a candidate capable of transforming the capital, using his popular “Mr Fix-It” brand to rally support for his gubernatorial ambitions.

He also suggested that Bishop Wanjiru could serve as his running mate should he secure the opportunity to lead Nairobi.

“If you want change in Nairobi, Mosiria is the change. Mosiria will fix Nairobi. Sasa nataka nikuwe gavana, mama akiwa deputy wangu. Twende mbele, mama!” Mosiria declared during the event.

His announcement placed him among several politicians and other aspirants seeking to succeed Sakaja when Kenyans head to the ballot in 2027.

Other potential contenders include Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Embakasi North MP James Gakuya, Kasarani MP Ronald Karauri and businesswoman Agnes Kagure.

Other Changes in Sakaja's Administration

Mosiria's removal was part of a wider reorganisation affecting several senior officers in the Nairobi County Government.

Eng. Samwel Njogu was designated to serve as acting Chief Officer for Mobility, while Housing and Urban Renewal Chief Officer Godfrey Akumali was assigned the Lands docket in an acting capacity.

According to the letter dated October 21, the changes were made pursuant to Sections 44(3)(a), 45(5) and 64 of the County Governments Act, 2012, with the approval of Governor Sakaja.

“The changes take effect immediately,” the letter stated.
