Passaris salutes teachers for shaping Kenya’s future
Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris has paid tribute to teachers across Kenya, describing them as key drivers of empowerment, social transformation and national development.
In her message to mark World Teachers’ Day, Passaris praised teachers for their dedication, passion and commitment to nurturing young minds and preparing learners for the future.
She said the contribution of teachers goes beyond the classroom, noting that educators play a critical role in shaping character, unlocking potential and empowering communities.
“To all teachers in Kenya and beyond, today we celebrate you. Your dedication, passion and commitment to nurturing young minds help them learn, while also empowering communities, transforming lives and building brighter futures for generations to come,” Passaris said.
She noted that teachers have a lasting influence on the lives of learners, often serving as mentors, role models and sources of encouragement at critical stages of a child’s development.
According to Passaris, the impact of a committed teacher can extend across generations, with knowledge, values and confidence imparted in the classroom ultimately contributing to stronger families and communities.
Her message placed particular emphasis on the wider social role of educators, recognising their contribution at a time when education is increasingly expected to equip young people with both academic knowledge and practical skills for a changing world.
Passaris said celebrating teachers should also be an opportunity to recognise the sacrifices and challenges that come with the profession.
Teachers routinely work beyond classroom hours preparing lessons, assessing learners, mentoring students and engaging parents, while also responding to the diverse needs of children under their care.
The Nairobi Woman Representative said such commitment deserves appreciation and support from society.
She noted that a country’s investment in education is ultimately an investment in its people and future, with teachers at the centre of translating that investment into meaningful outcomes for learners.
Her message comes as teachers across the world mark World Teachers’ Day, an occasion dedicated to recognising the contribution of educators and highlighting the importance of the teaching profession.
For Kenya, the celebrations provide an opportunity to reflect on the central role teachers play in developing human capital and preparing the next generation to take up responsibilities in various sectors.
Passaris urged Kenyans to recognise educators not only for academic instruction but also for the values and life lessons they impart to learners.
She said the work of teachers is reflected in the confidence of young people, the strength of communities and the aspirations of future generations.
“Happy World Teachers’ Day!” Passaris said, extending her appreciation to teachers in Kenya and beyond.
Her message was a recognition of educators as important partners in building a more empowered society, with their daily work continuing to shape the lives of millions of learners and, ultimately, the future of the country. :::
