NJORO MP HOSTS KINDIKI AS GOVERNMENT INSPECTS KSH2 BILLION ROAD PROJECT
Njoro MP Charity Kathambi on Tuesday hosted Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki in Lawina, Njoro Constituency, Nakuru County, where the government inspected construction works on the KSh2 billion Njoro-Beeston-Nesuit and Beeston-Lawina-Elburgon roads.
The 40-kilometre road corridor is among major infrastructure projects expected to improve transport, boost agricultural trade and open up communities across Njoro and neighbouring areas.
Speaking during the inspection, Prof. Kindiki said the project would ease the transportation of agricultural produce, including potatoes, vegetables, pyrethrum and dairy products, from Njoro's farming hinterland to markets in Nakuru, Molo, Elburgon and beyond.
He added that improved road connectivity would enhance access to schools, health facilities and other essential social amenities while creating opportunities for local businesses and residents.
The Deputy President also announced that rehabilitation works had commenced on the 120-kilometre Mauche-Bombo-Olenguruone-Kaptagich-Silibwet Road at a cost of KSh3.3 billion.
The two projects form part of the government's broader road infrastructure programme in Nakuru County, where 870 kilometres of roads have been earmarked for tarmacking at an estimated cost of KSh38 billion.
Prof. Kindiki said the projects demonstrated the government's commitment to using infrastructure development to stimulate economic growth, improve livelihoods and strengthen connectivity across the country.
Addressing residents in Lawina, he maintained that road construction remained a key pillar of the administration's development agenda, noting that improved transport networks were essential to unlocking the economic potential of rural communities.
He further cited the government's *Usawa ni Sawa Initiative*, saying infrastructure investments were being pursued across different regions to promote equitable development.
MP Charity Kathambi welcomed the projects, describing the tarmacking of the Njoro-Beeston-Nesuit and Beeston-Lawina-Elburgon roads as a long-standing priority for residents.
She said the improved roads would help reduce transportation costs, facilitate the movement of farm produce, create employment opportunities for young people and stimulate economic activity in Njoro Constituency.
For an area whose economy relies heavily on agriculture, better road connectivity is expected to improve farmers' access to markets while reducing the logistical challenges associated with transporting perishable produce.
Residents who attended the inspection expressed optimism about the projects, thanking President William Ruto and Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki for prioritising infrastructure development in the region.
The visit formed part of Prof. Kindiki's development tour of Nakuru County, during which he assessed the progress of national government projects and engaged residents on infrastructure and service delivery.
