Machua Waithaka Delivers Kanunga Division in Push to Bring Government Services Closer to Residents
Kiambu Town MP Machua Waithaka has overseen the operationalisation of Kanunga Division, a move aimed at improving access to government services and strengthening administrative coordination for residents of Kiambu Constituency.
The legislator, accompanied by Kiambu Sub-County Senior Deputy County Commissioner Titus Macharia, presided over a public baraza in Kanunga to mark the formal operationalisation of the new division under Assistant County Commissioner Teddy Wanjau.
The development addresses a longstanding administrative challenge in which chiefs serving Kanunga, Ngegu, Turitu and surrounding areas operated under Kiambaa Sub-County, while residents had to seek some government services through Karuri.
According to Waithaka, the arrangement created difficulties in coordination and service delivery, particularly for residents whose areas fall within Kiambu Constituency but had to navigate administrative structures outside their immediate jurisdiction.
The operationalisation of Kanunga Division is expected to streamline administrative coordination and bring government services closer to residents.
Waithaka said the achievement followed sustained efforts to address concerns raised by the community, describing the development as a significant milestone during his four years in office.
He maintained that effective administration requires government structures to be aligned with the needs of residents to ensure easier access to services and more efficient coordination among public officers.
The move also highlights the importance of collaboration between elected leaders and national government administrators in addressing challenges affecting service delivery at the grassroots.
The public baraza brought together chiefs from Kiambu and Kiambaa sub-counties, heads of government departments, Kiambu MCA David Chogi, aspirants for various elective positions, community leaders and residents.
The gathering provided an opportunity for stakeholders to engage on local administrative concerns and the importance of improving the delivery of public services.
For residents of Kanunga, Ngegu, Turitu and neighbouring areas, the change is intended to reduce administrative hurdles and improve coordination between local administration and the communities it serves.
Waithaka said his focus remained on making government services more accessible, improving administrative efficiency and responding to issues affecting the people of Kiambu.
The MP, who uses the slogan *Fundi Wa Maendeleo*, has framed the development as part of his broader commitment to addressing community concerns and ensuring government institutions operate more effectively.
The operationalisation of Kanunga Division adds to the ongoing efforts to improve grassroots administration, with residents expected to benefit from closer coordination and easier access to relevant government offices.
“Yangu ni Kazi Tu,” Waithaka said, reiterating his focus on service delivery and development.
