Kiragu Chege: The Champion Putting Limuru’s Dairy Farmers at the Heart of Development

Limuru MP Eng. Kiragu Chege is increasingly emerging as a strong voice for farmers and practical economic empowerment, with his constituency’s dairy sector benefiting from initiatives aimed at improving production, preservation and incomes.

The Limuru legislator has continued to champion interventions that speak directly to the needs of ordinary farmers, particularly in an area where dairy farming remains an important source of household livelihoods. Parliament lists Eng. Kiragu as the elected MP for Limuru.

His presence during the distribution of milk coolers to dairy farmer cooperatives across Kiambu County underscored his commitment to an agricultural agenda that goes beyond rhetoric and focuses on infrastructure capable of improving farmers’ returns.

Milk cooling is particularly important in protecting the value of farmers’ produce. Limuru Dairy Farmers’ Cooperative Society, for instance, operates an extensive collection network and relies on strategically placed coolers to bulk milk before processing.

For Eng. Kiragu, supporting such interventions reflects a leadership approach centred on practical solutions. The milk coolers are expected to help preserve milk quality, reduce post-harvest losses and give farmers a stronger platform to benefit from their hard work.

His engineering background also adds a distinctive dimension to his approach to development. With academic training in mechanical engineering and experience spanning Kenya Railways and technical consultancy, Eng. Kiragu brings a technical perspective to issues of infrastructure and economic development.

His participation alongside Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki and national and county leaders further highlighted the importance of partnerships in delivering programmes that touch directly on livelihoods.

For Limuru farmers, the significance of the intervention is straightforward: better preservation means less wastage, stronger milk value chains and greater potential for improved household incomes.

Eng. Kiragu’s leadership therefore continues to place farmers at the centre of the development conversation, with agriculture viewed not merely as a livelihood but as an engine of economic transformation.

His focus on dairy farmers is particularly timely given the established importance of the dairy value chain in Limuru. Limuru Dairy Farmers’ Cooperative Society has grown into a major farmer-owned institution, demonstrating the scale and economic importance of dairy production in the area.

With initiatives that connect farmers to infrastructure, government programmes and cooperative systems, Eng. Kiragu is demonstrating the value of leadership that listens to grassroots needs and supports solutions with tangible economic impact.

For many farmers, the message is clear: development becomes meaningful when it reaches the cowshed, the milk collection centre and ultimately the family table.

And in Limuru, Eng. Kiragu Chege is earning recognition for keeping the farmer firmly at the centre of that development agenda.
