GEOFFREY MOSIRIA BREAKS SILENCE AFTER SACKING, ACCUSES SAKAJA OF SIDELINING HIM
Geoffrey Mosiria has broken his silence following his dismissal from the Nairobi County Government, launching a scathing criticism of Governor Johnson Sakaja and accusing him of sidelining him long before the official announcement of his removal.
In a statement thanking Sakaja for making his sacking official, Mosiria claimed that his troubles began on December 28, 2023, when the governor allegedly stripped him of his constitutionally assigned responsibilities as an accounting officer and transferred the mandate to his junior officers.
Mosiria described the move as unprocedural, further alleging that the health department's budget under his docket was reduced from KSh1.2 billion to KSh100 million, leaving him without sufficient resources to carry out his duties.
He claimed that the budget reduction was linked to his alleged refusal to participate in direct procurement arrangements that he believed were intended to favour individuals close to the governor and some contractors.
Mosiria also alleged that Sakaja confronted him during a WhatsApp conference call that reportedly involved the governor's Chief of Staff, Osman Khalifa. He said evidence relating to the alleged incident was available, although he did not provide further details in his statement.
According to Mosiria, he was subsequently transferred to the Environment department, where he claimed his director reported directly to the governor, leaving him sidelined and with little work to perform.
He said he chose to remain active in the streets, leading operations that he believed were necessary to address issues affecting Nairobi residents, despite claiming that such responsibilities should ordinarily have been handled by junior officers.
The former county official further alleged that he endured internal frustrations, attacks in official WhatsApp groups, public criticism and a court case that nearly resulted in him being jailed for six months over alleged contempt of court.
Mosiria suggested that the court case was part of a plan to force him out of office, though the allegation had not been independently verified.
He said his subsequent transfer to the Customer Service docket, covering public participation, citizen engagement and customer service, came after he questioned the treatment he was receiving.
Despite calls from some bloggers for him to resign, Mosiria said he remained silent because he wanted an opportunity to work, deliver services to Nairobi residents and regain the governor's trust.
He maintained that his last meeting with Sakaja took place on December 28, 2023, at the governor's private office in Riverside, when he alleged that his responsibilities were taken away.
Mosiria accused the governor of failing to provide him with an opportunity to discuss his grievances, claiming that Sakaja rarely answered his calls or responded to his messages.
However, he said the experience had not diminished his commitment to serving Nairobi, adding that he was humbled by what he described as growing calls from residents urging him to vie for the Nairobi governorship.
“ My desire has never been to fight anyone; it has always been to fix the systems and serve the people of Nairobi,” Mosiria said.
His remarks suggest a possible shift towards elective politics as he positions himself as a potential challenger in the race to lead the capital city.
In a further claim, Mosiria alleged that he had received information that preparations were underway to institute a court case against him, which he feared could lead to his imprisonment.
He expressed hope that Nairobi residents would distinguish between those who deserved to face justice and those who should be given an opportunity to serve the public.
The allegations place the spotlight on the relationship between Mosiria and the Nairobi governor, with questions emerging over the circumstances surrounding his departure from the county government.
Governor Sakaja's response to the accusations was not included in Mosiria's statement. The claims regarding procurement, the alleged withdrawal of his responsibilities, the budget reduction and the alleged plan to prosecute him remain allegations that require independent verification and a response from the governor's office.
