Gachagua, Kalonzo Hold Talks on 2027 Election, Agree to Back One Presidential Candidate
Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has held consultations with Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka on plans to unite the opposition ahead of the 2027 General Election.
In a statement, Gachagua said he held extensive consultations with Kalonzo, whom he referred to as his cousin, alongside the Wiper Patriotic Front leadership, focusing on what he termed the liberation of the country and the formation of the sixth administration.
Gachagua said his Wamunyoro residence would remain central to ongoing efforts aimed at restoring the nation, signalling continued engagement among opposition leaders as they explore ways to strengthen their political alliance.
He noted that the leaders had agreed to make the necessary sacrifices to settle on a single presidential candidate who would lead their political struggle.
“We are all in agreement that we shall make whatever sacrifices necessary to settle on one presidential candidate to be the captain of our struggle,” Gachagua said.
The consultations come as opposition leaders face growing pressure to build a united front ahead of the 2027 polls, with the choice of a flag bearer expected to be a key factor in determining their political strategy.
Gachagua said consultations would continue, indicating that further discussions are expected as the leaders work towards a common position on the presidential race.
