Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has hosted Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya and other leaders associated with the Linda Mwananchi movement at his Wamunyoro residence in Nyeri County, signalling renewed efforts to foster cooperation among opposition leaders ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The meeting took place on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, shortly after the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader returned to Kenya from a nearly two-month stay in the United States.
In a message shared on social media, Gachagua welcomed the delegation and described the visitors as his cousins, expressing optimism about what political cooperation could achieve.
“Welcome to Wamunyoro residence, my cousins from Linda Mwananchi. When we come together, great things must happen,” Gachagua said.
The meeting brought together several prominent political figures, including Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, alongside Sifuna, Babu Owino and Natembeya. Other attendees included Linda Mwananchi communications representative Pauline Njoroge, former Law Society of Kenya president Faith Odhiambo and Bumula MP Jack Wamboka.
Gachagua's message of unity comes amid ongoing discussions about closer cooperation between leaders critical of President William Ruto's administration, with political realignments gathering momentum ahead of the 2027 polls.
The engagement has drawn attention because Gachagua and Sifuna have increasingly featured in conversations about bringing together different opposition groups under a common political strategy.
In recent weeks, Gachagua has expressed openness to working with Sifuna, including the possibility of supporting his presidential ambitions if opposition leaders agree on a common candidate. However, Tuesday's meeting did not, in itself, amount to a formal coalition agreement.
Sifuna also expressed appreciation for the invitation, thanking Gachagua and his wife, Pastor Dorcas Gachagua, for welcoming the delegation to their residence.
He indicated that the meeting could mark the beginning of further engagements aimed at strengthening cooperation among opposition leaders as the country approaches the next General Election.
The Wamunyoro meeting comes at a time when political leaders are engaging in consultations over the country's future direction, governance and the possibility of building a united opposition front.
While no formal political pact was announced following the meeting, the gathering brought together influential figures from different political backgrounds and renewed public attention on efforts to establish common ground ahead of the 2027 General Election.
