RVTTI Hosts Staff Performance Training and Induction Programme for New Trainers

Rift Valley Technical Training Institute (RVTTI) has hosted a Staff Performance Appraisal System (SPAS) training and induction programme aimed at equipping new trainers with the knowledge and skills required to effectively undertake their roles in the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector.

The programme was facilitated by officials from the Ministry of Education, State Department for TVET, as part of efforts to strengthen staff capacity, improve performance management and ensure newly recruited trainers are well acquainted with the systems and expectations governing their work.

According to RVTTI Principal Madam Loice Kutoh, the training brought together newly appointed staff from RVTTI and neighbouring TVET institutions, including Koshin, Moiben and Kipkabus TVET institutions.

The SPAS training focused on familiarising staff with the Staff Performance Appraisal System, which provides a framework for setting performance targets, monitoring progress and assessing employees against agreed objectives.

The induction also provided an opportunity for the new trainers to understand their responsibilities within the TVET system and the importance of maintaining high standards in training, professionalism and service delivery.

Madam Kutoh said the programme was an important step in ensuring that new staff begin their assignments with a clear understanding of institutional expectations and the broader objectives of technical and vocational education.

She noted that continuous staff development remains critical in strengthening TVET institutions and preparing trainers to respond effectively to the changing demands of the labour market.

The participation of staff from several institutions also provided an opportunity for trainers to interact, share experiences and gain a broader understanding of performance management practices across TVET institutions.

The initiative comes as TVET institutions continue to play a key role in providing young people with practical and technical skills needed to access employment, entrepreneurship opportunities and contribute to national development.

RVTTI continues to position itself as a Centre of Excellence in technical training, with a focus on strengthening staff capacity, improving training standards and providing quality skills development to learners.
