The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has summoned Nominated Member of Parliament Joseph Wainaina Iraya over remarks he allegedly made during a public address in Kapseret, Uasin Gishu County.

In a summons dated August 31, 2026, the commission said it had commenced investigations into utterances allegedly made by Wainaina at Ngeria on August 29.

According to the NCIC, the remarks allegedly targeted members of the Kikuyu community who do not support President William Ruto’s re-election, with the MP reportedly calling on them to leave Uasin Gishu County.

The commission reproduced the alleged remarks in the summons, including statements that appeared to threaten political opponents and those perceived not to support the President or the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

The MP is also alleged to have referred to individuals by names while urging members of the Kikuyu community to identify those who allegedly oppose Ruto and his political camp.

The NCIC said the summons was issued under Sections 27, 29 and 63C, read together with Section 63E, of the National Cohesion and Integration Act.

Wainaina has been directed to appear personally before the commission on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at 10am to assist with the ongoing investigations.

The commission warned that failure to honour the summons could result in a warrant of arrest being issued for the MP and his subsequent production before the commission.

It further cautioned that non-compliance could expose Wainaina to criminal and/or contempt proceedings.

The summons comes amid heightened political activity ahead of the 2027 General Election, with leaders facing increased scrutiny over statements that could potentially fuel ethnic or political tensions.
