Natembeya Mourns Senior Police Officer Lazarus Opicho

Trans-Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has joined the country in mourning the death of Senior Assistant Inspector General (SAIG) Lazarus Opicho, who served as the Commandant of the Security of Government Buildings (SGB) and VIP Protection Unit.

Governor Natembeya described Opicho as a dedicated, courageous and exemplary police officer who served the country with distinction, professionalism and a strong sense of duty.

In a condolence message, Natembeya said Opicho had made a significant contribution to Kenya's national security through his leadership in securing government installations and protecting senior government officials.

The governor also highlighted Opicho's role in the establishment of the Judiciary Police Unit, describing it as part of a distinguished legacy left by the senior officer within Kenya's security institutions.

Natembeya said Opicho's commitment to duty and the leadership he demonstrated throughout his career would continue to be respected and remembered by those he served alongside.

“On behalf of the people and Government of Trans Nzoia County, and on my own behalf, I convey my heartfelt condolences to his family, the Inspector General of Police, the entire National Police Service fraternity, his colleagues, friends, and the people of Sirende and Kiminini,” Natembeya said.

The governor extended his condolences to Opicho's family and colleagues, acknowledging the loss as a difficult moment for the National Police Service and the wider community.

He prayed for strength and comfort for the bereaved family, colleagues and all those who knew and worked with the late officer as they come to terms with his death.

Natembeya also conveyed his condolences to residents of Sirende and Kiminini, who he said had lost a son who served the country in a senior position within the national security establishment.

The death of Opicho has also prompted messages of condolence from leaders and institutions across the country, with tributes focusing on his career in the National Police Service and his contribution to the protection of government facilities and VIPs.

Natembeya concluded his message by praying for the peaceful repose of the late senior police officer.

“May the soul of SAIG Lazarus Opicho rest in eternal peace,” he said.
