Nandi Governor Launches School Feeding, Uniform Programmes as 41,600 ECDE Learners Set to Benefit

Nandi Governor Stephen Sang has launched new programmes targeting early childhood education, including a school feeding initiative that will benefit 41,600 ECDE learners across the county.

Under the ECDE School Feeding Programme, learners in 800 ECDE centres will receive fresh, locally produced milk twice every week.

Governor Sang said the programme is designed not only to improve nutrition among children but also to create a reliable market for dairy farmers in Nandi. The milk will be sourced directly from cooperative farmers within the county, linking agricultural production with education and child welfare.

Sang also launched the ECDE School Uniform Programme, which will provide uniforms to learners while creating business opportunities for the Nandi Textile Unit (NATEX) to manufacture the uniforms locally.

The county has further moved to strengthen the welfare of ECDE teachers, with the teachers being placed on Permanent and Pensionable (P&P) terms in recognition of their role in laying the foundation for children's education.

The governor said the measures demonstrate his administration's commitment to investing in children while supporting local farmers, manufacturers and teachers.

“We are investing in our children today to build a skilled, healthy and prosperous Nandi tomorrow,” Sang said.

The programmes are expected to improve learning conditions for young children while boosting local economic activity through increased demand for milk and locally manufactured school uniforms.
