Eldoret Takes Centre Stage as Kenya Tourism Week 2026 Kicks Off in North Rift

Eldoret has taken centre stage in Kenya’s tourism calendar as the North Rift hosts the 2026 Kenya Tourism Week and UN World Tourism Day celebrations from September 23 to 27.

Principal Secretary for Tourism Prof. Julius Bitok said the region is ready to showcase its diverse tourism heritage, culture, destinations and experiences while highlighting the potential of the North Rift and Kenya at large.

The five-day event, hosted in Uasin Gishu, brings together stakeholders and members of the public for activities focused on tourism, culture, sports, conservation, gastronomy and digital innovation. The Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife says the programme will also highlight the role of digital technology and Artificial Intelligence in transforming the tourism sector.

According to Prof. Bitok, activities will be spread across Uasin Gishu and neighbouring counties, giving visitors an opportunity to experience the region through culture, adventure, food, heritage, innovation and other tourism attractions.

The celebrations will culminate in the marking of World Tourism Day on September 27, an annual international observance that recognises tourism's social, cultural and economic contribution.

The 2026 celebrations are also expected to place greater emphasis on technology and Artificial Intelligence, reflecting the growing role of digital innovation in shaping tourism experiences and the way destinations are marketed and accessed.

The State Department for Tourism has urged residents, visitors and tourism stakeholders to follow the official programme for details on activities, venues and timings throughout the week.

With Eldoret serving as the main host, the celebrations are expected to provide a platform for showcasing the North Rift's tourism potential while creating opportunities for communities, businesses and other players in the tourism value chain.

“Eldoret is ready. The counties are ready. Kenya is ready,” Prof. Bitok said as he invited Kenyans to take part in the celebrations.
