Eldoret National Polytechnic Tops Kenya’s TVETs in Global Sustainability Rankings

The Eldoret National Polytechnic (TENP) has earned international recognition after emerging as the top-ranked Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institution in Kenya in the 2026 UI GreenMetric World University Rankings.

The recognition places TENP among institutions globally that are making significant efforts to promote environmental sustainability, responsible resource utilisation and sustainable development within their operations and learning environments.

The 2026 rankings, announced on September 24, 2026, in Baku, Azerbaijan, placed the Eldoret National Polytechnic at position 1,547 globally, 82nd in Africa and sixth nationally among participating institutions.

The achievement marks a significant milestone for the institution and highlights its growing contribution to sustainability and environmental conservation within Kenya’s TVET sector.

TENP is led by Chief Principal Dr. Charles Koech OGW, whose leadership has continued to drive the institution towards greater heights through a focus on institutional development, innovation, skills training and environmental responsibility.

Under Dr. Koech’s leadership, the polytechnic has continued to strengthen systems and initiatives aimed at creating a clean, green and conducive environment for learning and working.

The sustainability recognition reflects efforts to integrate environmental responsibility into various aspects of institutional operations while promoting awareness among trainees and staff on the importance of protecting the environment.

The UI GreenMetric World University Rankings assess institutions from across the world based on their environmental conditions, sustainability policies and ongoing efforts to improve their environmental performance.

The assessment covers several key areas, including infrastructure and green spaces, energy and climate change, water conservation, waste management, sustainable transportation, as well as sustainability education and research.

TENP’s performance in the rankings demonstrates the institution’s growing commitment to these areas and its efforts to align technical and vocational education with the broader global sustainability agenda.

The achievement is also a reflection of the collective contribution of the institution’s management, staff, trainees and other stakeholders who continue to support environmental conservation and sustainable practices.
